I have recently bought a 1929 K45 Johnson Seahorse. Am I better off to keep it all original (stickers, slightly dented tank, etc) and just clean it up or should I go for new stickers, chrome plating etc to get the best resale value
I’m working on a K-40. My vote is all original, just clean the old grease and oil off. Lightly polish the parts that were polished and keep as much of the original decal as you can. There were no chromed parts on your motor originally. Only bare aluminum and polished aluminum and paint on the cylinders. Can we see a picture of it? Here’s a before and during of mine.
Tubbs… “NOT EVRYTHING OLD IS VALUEABLE…” reminds me of the program PAWN SHOP where folks bring in old stuff and ask for tons of money…. like the man said..

Thanks for the responses guys. I’ve been around boats all my life. This year (Covid allowing) I will be driving the Segwun Steamship. (google if unfamiliar). I have always been mechanical but this will be my first restoration project. I thought maybe original was better but not sure about my label. Just bought this yesterday for $150 Cdn. I think it was a good price but I guess its all subjective. Time to grease up the elbow and start polishing I guess !!
