    Hi,

I’m new to the site and I love old vintage outboards.  I have started a collection, but need help in restoration of some of my favorite engines.  I wasn’t blessed with the skills to do this, but do have the appreciation for someone who can.  Does anyone do this type of service? I’m located in Mo.

    Thanks

Looks pretty  good as is. Might benefit from gentled cleaning so as not to to disturb decals  Grips for handle, recoil starter and water pump oscillator are available as reproductions. I do not know if ignition coils are out there. But, coils may be OK unlike later OMC coils.

Work on only one project at a time,  take photos and notes. work at your pace. Some are skilled and fast and can make a living as mechanics. In the hobby  speed is not required. Work with care and keep track ow what goes where. A parts manual for the model and year may help in tracking down parts or in assembly. Not essential as many in hobby do quite well without.

Exceptionally nice looking original TD or TN. It will surely need new leather primer seals and instructions to install them.  The Poche Website is very helpful, but the Add there for my primer seals and instructions is very old. I had to raise the price to $10.00 a few years ago as it is getting harder to find proper leather to make new ones.

That’s a good looking 3 hp Johnson Mumbles, looks like new, but it’s too shiny, not like the old original faded green. Does it run as good as it looks, those were good trolling motors, back in the day.                                                                                  Gene.

Mumbles’s  motor is a 5hp  TN with neutral clutch.  Necks must be thinking of the early  Johnson 3hp JW.

dkadel, join the club (if you haven’t already) and go to meets.  You’ll make friends who are glad to teach you what they know.
