My friend Jason Pickerell sent me this funky Ride Guide mounting plate for my Glasspar Delmar project. I’ve never seen one of these before and I hope to use it but I’m stalled by the forward tilt of the mount.  I don’t want my wheel tilting down but maybe it will land at 90 degrees?

Consulting with Mr. Know-it-all in Waldoboro, he says he was told these were used for display purposes at boat shows and not used as a mount on a boat.  Anyone have experience with these?

I have never seen one either but I wasn’t involved in a lot of that earlier Merc stuff. I have a hard time believing they took the time to cast that thing, create a part number, etc., just for a few displays. Teleflex has always offered a 90 degree mount and an angled mount. My guess is that your piece is simply made to convert your 90 degree mount to an angle, and they saw a prime opportunity to boldly tout the brand. Too bad it really won’t work well in your case, as it is very cool. Nice boat, too!

          Long live American manufacturing!

Yeah, obviously an angled conversion for boats with slanted dashboard.
