What kind of hose and clamps would they have used on outboards 100
years ago? I need to get some 3/8" ID hose to connect the water pump
      to cylinder.
      Thanks.

I don’t use clamps….It is not under extreme pressure just make sure it is snug on the fitting, and red heater hose, or black if you wish..

I like to twist some wire to squeeze the hose tighter around the fitting, since the fittings don’t usually have barbs on them. I don’t use hose clamps. Unless I hafta. Or if somebody else put them on and I’m too lazy to take them off. Or the pump output pressure is so great that it needs hose clamps to keep the hose from being blown off. Or if I’m running the motor in Australia, since every thing needs clamps on it down there (opposite side planetary gravity forces at work). Hope this helps. Won’t lose any sleep if it doesn’t.

I was just looking at the Clamptite "type" of wire twisting, clamp making tools on YouTube.
Think I’ll make one. I wasn’t worry about the necessity of needing a clamps
on that little piston pump discharge pressure…… just was curious if anyone
knew what they had on them when they were new in the crate.

No, that paint will be toast if it ever runs. High temp silver would have been
a better choice. I may never find a magneto to hear it run, so the paint is
                  safe for now, lol.
