Picked up a Scott 10 hp gold top green bottom 38655223 Think this is a 52 0r 57 ? Is the water pump under powerhead it says bailamatic I guess power head comes off to get at ??
July 1, 2016 at 4:59 am #39341Yes, under the powerhead, not the greatest idea and some have said contributed to the downfall of the company. Getting the pump to draw the water up can be a challenge sometimes, loosing it’s prime.
July 1, 2016 at 7:01 am #39344It is a 1956. Water pumps are in the exhaust housing, below the powerhead. Don’t pull the powerhead, remove the exhaust housing. Easy enough to do. look in the area of the lower spring mount. See that reverse tilt lock assy, the piece that goes around the shift rod? Remove that piece (some E-rings) Now remove the lower spring mount retainer bracket (couple of screws). Now remove the bunch of screws that hold the exhaust housing to the powerhead. When the last one is out, the exhaust housing will drop down and away, and the powerhead will hang there in the upper spring mounts.
The rest looks complicated but isn’t too bad. 😯 You have to remove that goofy shift mechanism to get to the water pumps. It really isn’t that hard to do, once you make up your mind it has to be done. Bunch of E-rings and roll pins. That long crosswise pin will slide out.
Nothing to it. You’ll be the new Scott-Atwater guru on the block. 😎
July 1, 2016 at 10:08 am #39349Is this the same rule on the 7.5 Frank?
Here is a good tip for anyone, who owns a Scott. Squirt a shot of WD-40 in the bailo-o-matic nipple each initial start up. This will do a lot, to prolong the impellers on these. There are holes in the center wear plate on these, so a generous shot of WD-40 in the nipple, will allow some of it, to drain into rhe lower impeller system.

July 1, 2016 at 3:57 pm #39367thanks Frank good info. I appreciate the comeback . Sounds like quite a chore .Guess I should ask where do I get a impeller ?
July 3, 2016 at 4:25 pm #39527I would like to know where to get impellers also for a 7.5hp bailamatic. I have used a honda impeller part number 19210-ZW9-013 I had to shim the housing with 1/16 inch stainless and also shim the impeller to the shaft. I am getting ready to fix a Firestone that was made by Scott I believe and it would be nice to purchase the impellers if someone knows where to get them? I only shimmed the top impeller using a honda impeller on the engine I re-did since the lower one runs the bailamatic I didn’t re-do it. You can see it run here. I did send an email to flying scott but didn’t get a response. Thanks for the help.
