Two part question: Can anyone tell me what kind of compression numbers I should be expecting when I test a 1956 Scott-Atwater 7.5, model 3365? And, does anyone know of a source for head gaskets for this model? I see that Laing’s sell a number of Scott head gaskets, but they don’t seem to carry any for the 7.5s and 10s, both of which are the gaskets I require, of course

These are not high compression engines. They will run fine with 65-70 PSI. The highest I have seen for a 7.5 hp Scott is 80 PSI.

You might try these guys for your gaskets: http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/

Americanoutboards.com has a lot of scott/ firestone stuff. They might be an option as well.

Not high compression engines is correct, however, even compression between cylinders is important. Close is good.

P/N for your head gasket is 465-1882 if that helps any.

Thanks to all of you. If the compression numbers are normally that low I may not need the head gasket.
