What would be the intended purpose of this Scott Atwater jack?
Pretty sure it’s not to lift cars!
Funny thing is, I used to have one similar, and maybe still do somewhere,
      (that was my grandfather’s stuff)
and this one is for sale a short distance away.
Make me wonder what else Scott was dabbling in.

They made the toys for Cracker Jack, so why not Bumper jacks 😆 ?

Before the advent of shock absorbing bumpers(early 70s), bumper jacks were the usual method of jacking up a car on the side of the road. But they were usually mechanical.

I seem to remember reading that Scott Atwater made jacks and other tools before the outboards. Maybe I read it in the old outboard book

The instructions on the label clearly mentions raising the car and placing wheel blocks before you do. Well maybe not "clearly" but read the missing words in the holes.

Yeah, I remember bumper jacks, and those thin stamped bumpers they hooked under. But can’t say I ever saw a fancy hydraulic one. Must have been for Cadillacs and Packards.

Some day we’ll be explaining "bumpers" that you could actually use
a jack on to lift the car.

But do you remember bolt-on and chain secured towing plates…those toobars that you could chain to your real bumper and use the ball hitch to tow just about anything? Man I miss the days before plastic fantastic items and wimmen.
