I recently purchase a 1955 Scott-Atwater model 375547.5 h.p. The recoil spring was broken.Actually found 3 nos springs in a box of stuff I just got.Installed it and reinstalled the pulley and pawl assy.So far…so good. So,the 64 dollar question is,how to install the rope?It has the original wire cord rope.I must be mssing something.Ken ken1401732@aol.com

What I have on Scott Atwater rewind starters (Under 35 HP) . . . πŸ˜‰

There are sources for the bronze cable cored rope, The end can be stripped and the bronze soldered to itself to form a loop – Or you can try tying a knot in ΒΌ" braided nylon rope – if you can heat and mash the knot enough to push it into the pulley so the snubbing rivet will hold it. . . πŸ™‚

I have a way of using regular cord, that I like. It doesn’t use a knot. I posted it here one time and got zero, and I mean zero, reaction. I take that as a good sign, because I only seem to get a reaction on this site when people think I am wrong! PM me if you are interested.

          Long live American manufacturing!
