I just acquired a 1948 or (more likely) 1949 Sea King 3hp. Model 84GG9007A, serial 158313. This motor has a gas tank with provision to mount a recoil starter. I do not see any parts list or record of a recoil being available on the Gale / Sea King 3hp motors of this vintage. Did someone mount a tank from a 5hp? Or was there a rare deluxe version with an automatic rewind?

By the way, I did check “under the hood”, and it is a single cylinder 3hp powerhead.

      Thanks

I suppose a tank swap might be possible.  Anyhoo, the 84GG9007A (1948) did not have a recoil starter.

          A 1948 model 84GG9014A (5hp) did indeed have a recoil starter.

Thank you Frank – Looks to me like a swap occurred sometime in the last 70 years or so.
