Over the last several years I’ve accumulated several broken or slipping shock absorbers used in the 50’s and 60’s OMC smaller horsepower outboards.
So, to salvage them for use I TIG welded them after ensuring they were the proper length.

My question is ….. Using these welded shock absorbers, what is better – a brass drive pin or aluminum drive pin? All of the outboards I’m collecting and using are 10hp or smaller.

Also, is there a source for the rubber tail cone (p/n 0303365) used on these outboards? New or used?

As always, thanks for the help and making this a fun hobby.

I’ve bought new ones from Peter at nymarine.ca

As far as brass or aluminum pins go, I think either would be ok, but I would use with brass for corrosion reasons.

Depending on alloy used, brass is approximately 12% stronger in terms of shear strength. Unless you enjoy changing broken shear pins, I would choose the brass. Just my opinion.
