      Hello,
I am going to need to convert a 1957 evinrude 35HP to a long shaft.
I could use some insight into the possible compatible parts from other years so that I can broaden my search as much as possible.
In browsing through parts manuals, I see the same leg extension (5″) used on quite a few motors over the years as well as the water tube and shift extension.
It looks like the 56-58 30hp/35hp and the 65-70 33hp would be completely interchangeable.
In 1971 the 40hp looks close. From 1971-1977 the the drive pin for the impeller changed to a key. Does anyone know if the driveshaft diameter, length, and splines are the same? If the impeller key is in the correct location I believe it could be made to work.
The same basic exhaust leg returned again in 1983. Same question about the driveshaft: length, diameter, splines and impeller key location.
I am not sure if I found them all, the number of different models seems to increase rapidly in the later years and I may have missed some.
If the drive shafts turn out not to be interchangeable, am I correct in that the rest of the parts are identical?

This is from the 1964 book. Sorry, I do not have 1965-up. I’ll leave the legwork up to you to convert to Evinrude models

Save the legwork, here is the Evinrude list from the ’67 quick reference guide.
