Bucc, I don’t think you want all that cable below the deck and behind the seat, if you run the cables along the side all the way to the transom and then into the drainwell area along the bottom of the drainwell past the engine then they loop around back to the motor. The loop ends up right in front of the motor. Also I always used the measurement from the control box back to the transom over to the centerline then add 3 feet not 4. You also might want to add only 2 feet for the port cable so you don’t have excess cable in the drainwell.
March 11, 2021 at 12:20 pm #233536Thanks Frank, the “kink” makes sense now.
The few that I’ve taken apart were not so much kinked as
marred up.Prepare to be boarded!

I think there is a misprint on those instructions…if you try to add one complete turn to the second clamp screw you will probably cut the core wire in half…I tighten the first screw 1 turn then just lock down the second screw tight.
March 11, 2021 at 12:27 pm #233539I’ll take some photos of how the cables are routed in mine – should have that and measurements later today.

Dan, I understand your concern with too much cable to contend with.
I did some measurements this morning.
I measured the current cable lengths, then calculated how much longer
they’d need to be to arc behind the rear seat.
Then I did a measurement from the instructions ……
center of control box to stern, plus starboard side
of stern to center of motor, plus 48″.The results…….
Current cable lengths…..
Port – 9′-7″
Starboard – 8′-6″
=======================
Current cables length plus extra needed to go behind rear seat –
Port – 10′-11″
Starboard – 10’5
========================Cable length per instructions..
14′ (including extra 4′)
=============================As is, the throttle cable is about 16″ too short,
and the shift cable about 23″ too short.The 14′ calculations for the manufactures instructions are probably
close, as my measurements on the current cables “lacking” did
not include any extra for a loop and movement of the motor.Will be curious to see what Dave comes up with on his boat
with cables configured properly.
Thanks for all the help and input!Prepare to be boarded!
March 11, 2021 at 1:21 pm #233543Daves boat looks like it’s rigged just like yours was so maybe having the cables coming thru the front of the drainwell doesn’t have as much cable movement as you would think….is an interesting way to do it.
March 11, 2021 at 1:42 pm #233544I just finished measuring the cables in my boat. First I measured a new in the box Teleflex cable I had for another boat to see where they measure from, and they measure from the tips of the brass fittings at the ends where the piano wire comes out. My gearshift cable is 11 feet and the throttle cable is 12 feet. Any longer will just add more friction because you have to coil up the excess with more bends.
Note that Teleflex cables are now Seastar.
I will post photos of the routing next in a separate post because sometimes when I post more than one photo, the post goes “poof ” and disappears, and I wanted to be sure you get the measurements. Note the cables curve as they approach the rear starboard corner, then angle back up behind the battery box as they work their way forward to the holes in the splashwell. Temporarily Push the throttle cable farther up into the splashwell to put gas tank in and out.
Next post hopefully has photos getting through.

Good observation. I agree 1 turn on first, then just tighten the second.
March 11, 2021 at 3:41 pm #233566Having trouble posting photos and hosting site down – trying a new site with smaller photos – OK I got links to the photos to work, but a nasty off-color ad came with them so taking out the links a nd starting over.
OK – I’m learning about posting direct here and my computer hiccuped, ending up with repeated photos that it won’t let me delete – sorry about that – but just click on the first 4 to see them all.
Note a couple photos have shadows from the camera flash that look like another black cable – disregard shadows.
