On Dad’s old boat that I grew up with, I made a piece of plywood with small pieces of wood for a border under the gas can to keep it in place. Without that, the lower one inch of the gas can side that faces the transom rubs on the transom braces and slowly grinds away at the tank and the bottom of the braces as the tank slides when you do fairly quick turns. – I notched the plywood for the transom brace-ribs and put two angle brackets side by side to attach it to the rear of the aluminum seat back rib. I think I’ll make one for the boat I have now. By holding the tank in place, it also limits travel of the battery box and interference between battery and tank. I had thoughts of a similar board under the battery, but that would make the drain plug even more inaccessible. I’m sure there are other creative ways to keep the tank from sliding back and forth against the bottom of the transom braces.
