      That will have no undesirable effect on the final compression reading, so long as the ‘face’ of your compression tester fitting is sitting at about the same depth as the spark plug normally would. And since you had to +add+ o-rings (to prevent piston collision?) you should be perfectly safe.

        If you are using TCW-3 oil, it is likely just unburned oil. My TD-20 always generates the slimy goo there. It is normal.

          Phew! Thanks guys…you have all his been a great help. I had visions of having to scrap this motor.

          The oil in the bottom end was a very dark monkey poo brown. The impeller had been changed at some point, but since the coils were so crumbled, I figured it was best to change it anyway because it had obviously been sitting for decades.
