I have tried being polite as others have also been regarding the health and future of this club. It’s pretty obvious this group is running out of paying members to support the funding of AOMCI. I don’t know the exact number of dues paying members but I recall it being less than 2,300. The way I see it is this club is at a cross road. I have read many post’s regarding eliminating the calendar , faulty mailings of the quarterly magazine and changes to the collection of dues. There is one glaring aspect of this club that no one wants to address and that is the FREE Facebook AOMCI site that has 19,500 plus members. As a paying member of this club I have brought this up in the non public discussion part of this forum. I am now going to say it for the public to read. Why on earth does this club have a free Facebook AOMCI ? It was explained to me a member created it and when he got tired of it he turned control back to the AOMCI organization. Why is this Free group allowed to exist with the AOMCI organization in control of it? Nobody to speak of looks at our official website. We have a members only AOMCI Facebook website with 500? paying members that I am fine with. But what is with this Facebook 19,500 members free Stuff and I am putting Stuff politely. GET RID OF IT. SHUT IT DOWN and direct these people over to the official club. And recrute them as members. Sincerely Bill,
January 10, 2024 at 2:46 pm #283816good point never new of the freebie site as I do not subscribde to facebook & never will.
I can only think of seagulls…they never show up when no free food is available !
Joining AOMCI has priviledges 🙂
January 10, 2024 at 5:40 pm #283817I have complained about this for years but they say they can do nothing about it. I even dropped out of the club for a couple of years after being a member, former officer of local chapter and contributor for over 40 years. How often do you even see the “old time members” and officers contribute to “Ask a member” other than George Emmanuel. It seems they spend lots of time on the face book part of our club but don’t have time for us paying members. I don’t belong to face book either as I tried it once many years ago and it wasn’t for me. We’re fighting a losing battle. I believe the club doesn’t have many years left and it’s a crying shame. I want to thank those few die hards who continue to contribute to “Ask a member”, this is the one thing I look at every day. They are the real members of this club who support it as all paying members should. Again, I think the club,as we once knew it, is dying and there’s nothing we or anybody else can do about.
January 10, 2024 at 5:54 pm #283818Perhaps less people would stray to FB if this site worked better.
I’ve just about given up uploading photos as the wrong photos keep
showing up, etc. Also, there’s rarely anything new added to
the Inner Sanctum.
I know a lot of volunteers work hard, and I hope there’s a
way to turn things around.Prepare to be boarded!

Not a fan but I’m pretty sure the face
book page is members only now.
Tubs.January 10, 2024 at 6:43 pm #283821That sounds like a good point! I don’t do Face Book or whatever… I guess that anyone could start a FB group about old outboard motors, I think that we couldn’t stop that from happening. however, I sure don’t understand how or why AOMCI should be sanctioning such. Maybe our members that participate on FB should consider referring questions and such over to this web site… and post their valuable information/responses here. We do claim to be the “Pioneering Authority” after all!

January 10, 2024 at 8:22 pm #283822No Tubbs there are 2 Facebook AOMCI sites. One is free for anyone, 19,600 members . The other only has about 500 members and to participate you have to be a dues paying member of this club. How long can this site exist with numbers like that. I like this club but this makes no sense to have a free Facebook site in direct competition with the dues paying members.
January 10, 2024 at 8:37 pm #283823I don’t know if the Facebook page is still free or members only at this point, as I refuse to participate in FB or even open a page there. But if it still free access, I would also support shutting it down and directing everyone to this site instead with the intent of possibly recruiting some new members. I’ve only been a member of AOMCI for about 6 years now but I certainly appreciate the folks who volunteer their time to serve on the Executive Council as well as those members who participate and kindly share their wealth of experience here on this site. As we all know, the cost of EVERYTHING is certainly higher these days and the only way to offset rising costs is to recruit more members. I hated not getting a new calendar this year but I understand why that had to be sacrificed. So if FB is still available to anybody who wants to get on there without being a dues-paying AOMCI member, then it should be shut down.

But, we really need to do something about this website. It’s too bad that there can’t be some sort of FB link that directs folks here, but we need to be ready for that with a decent website…

January 11, 2024 at 7:26 am #283835I posted my thoughts of this subject yesterday but I see it has been taken down. Maybe this’ll be taken off too?? Guess who won’t be renewing this fall if my post isn’t put back up.
