Cast tanks were discontinued approx. serial number 5,000
June 27, 2023 at 2:55 pm #277497Rope starter threads are 10-30. I’ve seen a post from this group where someone claimed to have purchased a die and made bolts to use with a gear puller, would like to see more feedback or a video of how that. I understand not wanting to smack the end of the crankshaft but using 10-30 bolts seems quite risky.
Thanks for the links, I’ll check them out tonight.
June 28, 2023 at 9:24 am #277527Hello Stanley,
Did you find or download this page from the AOMC site?
June 28, 2023 at 10:25 am #277531
I read somewhere, probably here, that the
change the from the cast tank was in the
mid 5000’s.
I owned # 5447 at one time.

June 28, 2023 at 10:39 am #277532Stanley, thanks for the info.
That explains the plugged sections, very interesting.
June 28, 2023 at 10:52 am #277536Wow!!
Are these pictures before & after of the same motor?
Did you do the restoration?
You noted earlier that my A # 4215 does not have a cavitation plate.
Any idea when the cavitation plate was added?
June 28, 2023 at 11:05 am #277537Cavitation plates were a separate piece until the 1925 A25 model when the cavitation plate and gearcase guard became one piece. Before 1925 they were available as an accessory.I own examples of all the A models from a very early 3 digit serial# 1922 A to a very late 1926 A25 and there were many little changes like that through years.

June 28, 2023 at 11:06 am #277538I’ll be removing the pump in the next day or so.
I’ve found these connection to be quite tight and plan to get a 1/2″ flare wrench to loosen them up.
Are there any concern with heating the connection(s) to help free them up?
Thanks
June 28, 2023 at 11:15 am #277539No concerns with a little heat.Just go slow and work them back and forth as they loosen.

Same motor. I cleaned it up. These old motors keep
me busy through the winter as well as using them in
the summer. This example had a broken
crankshaft. May be the reason it was mostly
complete, and in otherwise good condition. A
replacement crank, gas cap, and spark plug wires
were all that were necessary for this motor to be
running again.
As Stanly has noted there were many little changes,
like cavitation plate, through the years.
That’s not me, but a suspect Stanly can provide you
with those details to look for that would be correct
for your example.
