What Champion spark plug is used in a 1947 2hp Evinrude sportsman model 4416 and what is the gap.

The book sez, ’39 – ’47 Sportman motors were equipped with Champion H-10J plugs gapped at .025″.  You’ll have to do some searching to find a modern equivalent to that plug.

I’m thinking H is the thread length and 10 is the heat range.  J style plugs with the shortened ground aren’t made or needed anymore.

Your Sportsman takes an H-10-J spark plug.

Mumbles has it about the H, the 10, and the J.
The Champion H10C is the closest – easily obtained –
replacement I know of. It has the 11.2 mm thread
reach as did the H10C but the end of the ground
isn’t centered over the electrode. A file can change
            that if one likes.

            .

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
