I was going to put new plug wires and terminal ends on the Firestone mag,
and pulled out some new terminal ends that I took off a different outboard
because they didn’t look correct. I noticed on these NKG terminals,
they said 10K Ohms on them. Sure enough, that’s what they test.
I presume these are meant for automotive use, not old outboards???
Thanks, Buccaneer
They are probably for CD ignition. I know Honda and Yamaha both have resistor spark plug terminals on their CD ignitions. They tend to fail after time and I’ve replaced them with regular Sparkie style terminals and they run just fine.
10K NGK terminals (like LB10F) are typically found on motorcycles. They aren’t appropriate for outboard motors in almost all cases.
There is currently an eBay seller who is offering 90′ NGK terminals without a resistor for under $6.00 per set, shipped. I bought a set, and they are just great.
Quality is much better than the typical ‘sparky’ type cap.
