I don’t have a picture of it but I’ve seen a 6039 magplate with a small socket mounted on it where a kill switch could be plugged in thus leaving the motor operational either way. It was a neat modification using one of those small, two pin connectors available at most boat dealerships. The female portion was mounted on the plate to prevent accidental grounding.
October 3, 2015 at 6:07 pm #25058That is the way I would go, essentially a parallel kill system.
Part of my spares kit will be a spare mag assembly so this will give me something to look over before committing. I have access to all sorts products that could serve in such a way.
One thought would be to go with an insulated post/screw/stud where the remote connection(s) could be made. Also could be something like a mini 90 degree coax type connection. Would want a secure connection, nothing that could just be pulled out. Could be done with a single lead grounding the breaker to ground. Will have to see what it is.

Can’t use it if anyone cares to make a fair offer or trade.
Greg.

I don’t think I ever saw the control box to which you are referring.
I have several questions but I am sure they would be answered with a pic. Can you post a pic of this box. I do want a two lever box so I have the ability to work both the spark and carb.

Also, looking for a front cowl/cover for same engine to use as a an experimental piece in mocking up the cable mounting and steering, possibly. Does not have to perfect. PM me if you have one available.

October 6, 2015 at 7:57 pm #25232Greater travel of the magneto timing can be achieved by moving the pivot closer to the crankshaft center. I can envision a bolt through the magneto base plate extending below as an anchor for the end of the magneto timing connection. The outer cable anchor might then be on top of the port side of the carburetor cover. It is the exact opposite of the throttle operation where you will go from stop to wide open in less than the full travel of the speed control lever on the classic OMC control box. . . :geek:
October 6, 2015 at 8:33 pm #25234PM me about the box. Mine has three levers. Spark, throttle and choke.

Ask any Boat racer that’s owned and / or driven an engine having a racing gear case ! :O)October 7, 2015 at 2:50 pm #25267October 7, 2015 at 9:07 pm #25277Garry,
Those controls are scarce as hen’s teeth! One thing folks have not mentioned is, if you are going to use a remote spark advance, you will have to greatly reduce the friction on the magplate!–otherwise there will be a lot of bent Bowden cable! The pictured control was of course for the electric-starting models which had a totally different point (mag) plate.

Thanks for the catalog page, Garry.
George; had planned on minimizing mag friction.
Received engine today, real nice. If the weather holds and I get the prep done will sea trial this weekend with tiller.
Wanted to use a 33c cables but also want to use an 50’s/early 60’s Evinrude control box. I’ll see how this all works out on whether I use a push or pull setup.
Thanks for the input.
