I don’t know much about iPhones, I only have one because my son and wife gave me their old one because they were upgrading. I don’t have service on this, I just use it with my wi-fi at home and let my granddaughter play games on it. But I heard you could get a speedometer app on it even without having a service plan. So I downloaded and installed this one and tried it the other day on the lake and it works great! This might not be news to others but just thought I’d mention it in case someone was looking for a way to track their speed and hadn’t found anything yet.
