What makes one Evinrude a sportwin and another a fastwin?

Eight horsepower. A Sportwin is a ten while a ’57 and later Fastwin is an eighteen and earlier ones were fifteen horse.

Depends on the year too. A 1933 Sportwin was 4hp.

And a late 40’s Sportwin was 3.3 horse.

Put another way, the Sportwin has a Bore of 2-⅜" and stroke of 1-⅞" – for a piston displacement of 16.6 cubic inches.
The Fastwin has a bore of 2-⅜" and stroke of 2-¼" for a piston displacement of 20 cubic inches. Increasing the bore to 2-½" gave them 22 cubic inches and three more horses.

                Error corrected – 😳

Maybe it’s just a slight oversight, but in ’57 the BORE was increased to 2 1/2′ on the Fastwin while retaining the 2 1/4" stroke. 😀

I really love the 1963 color scheme.

My preferred Evinrude are 1957, 1963 and 1968.
