Sounds like surgery. I can’t think of anything that I like less than removing a stubborn seal. I applaud your patience… Nice job!
Yeah, been in your shoes many times before. I have destroyed screwdrivers making punching tools with limited success, and like you say, you must be very careful not to damage the bushing.
If you damage the housing just mix up J-B weld smooth it in and grease the outside of the seal and install. seal will come right out when needed.
