I am looking at a Johnson A-50 near me. Motor appears complete in pics provided by seller. Anybody out there have anything to say about these? Serial # 151377

      Thanks.

Dave, they are just a scaled down K-50. Very similar to your KA37 but, old style lower unit and carb. Nice little motors.

          Mike,

Thanks. I noticed the older style carb and lower unit. I will probably go look at it. Pictures show a dirty, dusty motor, but as I said it looks complete. One dent in the tank. Decals are either gone or covered in dirt.

Gotta have something to do besides eating and sleeping. 😷

First year of alternate firing design for the SA model. Decent little runners.

I have an A70 that I use regularly on a 12’ Thompson cartopper. It is a smooth easy to run little motor.

I have 2 A-70s. One to run and a pretty one to hang on the wall to get oohs-and aahs. a little bit of Mothers Metal Polish cleans them up really nice.

Bullet proof magneto, not so fun to start when the temp approaches freezing (fuel doesn’t want to atomize).

I have Ks and Js of the same era and I notice in my (cold) lake they carbon up in the exhaust outlet on the bottom of the powerhead — it effectively prevents scavenging of exhaust gases. Maybe that’s a place to inspect before you spend hours of pulling to produce a few pops.

The crank case bushings and rotary valve clearance are the Achilles heel of these engines.Check for excessive play by trying to move flywheel side to side.

Thanks for the input. I picked it up this morning on my way to work.

I will post some pics when I get a chance.

Cool, I look forward to seeing it in projects.
