Hello all, I’m try to find parts and info on setting up tiller rope steering controls for my Mercury KF 7. I have the steering wheel and drum installed. Did Mercury sell parts to convert the tiller handle, throttle and shifting lever?
It looks like the deadman throttle is the way to go, but how does that move the shifter from neutral to forward? Photos or parts numbers would be most helpful.
      thanks

The KF7 does not have a shifting lower unit.  Once you start the motor, you are off and running.  How the KH7 has a shifting lower unit but I do not think there are any provisions to adapt the shift and throttle.  You might be better off switching to a MK20 or MK25 as there are kits to make it have remote steering, throttle and shift.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Thanks for your input. Are they original equipment? Or is this just how people figured it out?

Okay factory steering bar, thanks. Dose any one know the part number, or have one for sale? Seems like it’s a custom job now. Thanks

$60 ? Make one, it’s just a piece of flat stock. Bend it to look like the one Tubs pictured and drill some holes in it. In the right place, at the right time, it’s in the scrap bin at a welding or fab shop and you’ll get it for a polite smile.

                      "Fox News" isn't.

Thanks again for your help all, so what do we think the steering bar should be made out of? Bronze brass stainless aluminum? Any idea were to find the original dimensions?  Installing the deadman throttle today and filling  the fabric on forward deck.
