Hello all…..
The OMC 9.5 has front motor mount issues (they all break!) and it seems that parts are NLA (#0380963). Even if there **WERE** NOS parts available…..they are $$$$$$ expensive…and since they too are old and feeble….how long could they be expected to last anyway?Another solution is needed…..and maybe some of you already have tried something that seems to work????
If so…please share your ideas????
Drill a hole through the thing and insert a strong bolt? Wrap the two pieces with wire? There seems to be clearance at both sides for something like this…and I am suggesting that some sort of suitable fix; while not perfect….might be "better than nothing"….
Have any of you given it a shot?
November 23, 2016 at 12:20 am #47852You can take the original, make a mold and squirt in urethane
November 23, 2016 at 2:24 am #47870I fixed the broken rubber in a lower mount on a 1984 Evinrude by cleaning the surfaces really well and used 5200 ,clamped it and let it sit for a day or two. I believe it is still fine and holding.
If you drilled through the metal mounts for a bolt, you may want to drill the hole in the metal larger than the bolt a bit to allow the mount to still flex, and don’t overtighten it so it dosnt move ,using nyloc nuts?
How about 2 good quality stainless steel hose clamps ? You got redneck questions , I got redneck fixes. YEP ."Some people want to know how a watch works, others just want to know what time it is"
Robbie RobertsonNovember 23, 2016 at 2:52 am #47874I’ve jammed an additional rubber piece in between to firm them up, but it’s not the perfect fix. I tried some adhesives with the added rubber piece, but haven’t found a good glue yet.
DaveNovember 23, 2016 at 3:04 am #47877This is going to sound crazy but consider using 3M-5200. It has super high tensile strength and superior bonding. The only problem is you’ll have to devise some way to contain it in the desired shape until it fully cures. I’ve never done something like this but I have used it extensively on other projects.

Thanks George, Being a DIY guy on just about everything, I’m always looking for new adhesives. I’ll get some and try it if I ever have to work on a broken 9.5 mount again. The last one I was asked to fix, I turned that job down.
DaveNovember 23, 2016 at 5:17 am #47882I recall a post about a year ago where one of our members made new rubber bushings using polyurethane windshield adhesive. I haven’t been able to find that post.
November 23, 2016 at 12:31 pm #478905200 is good stuff. Be sure to get the original 5200 in the blue and white tube, not the fast cure [in red/white tube] for the most strength.
I think Mumbles had a post awhile back about motor mounts for these if I remember correctly?November 23, 2016 at 1:51 pm #47894Interesting thread. One of these "problem" outboards came with my AlumaCraft.
I bought the package for the vintage boat and trailer, but threw the 9.5
in the test barrel for kicks anyway. It ran great, but the power head
flopped around like a crappie out of water. Pretty sure it has the broken
mounts, and will be interested in hearing of your "shop" fixes!Prepare to be boarded!
