What if you mill a circular recess into each of the inside the metal faces, then place a large thick spring in between? A single bolt (with thread locker) could be installed trough the center to keep the spring from popping out but still give flexibility.

The short answer is yes. Eventually it will fail. I have a 1972 and all my mounts are still good and it has seen LOTS of use, but no abuse.
November 23, 2016 at 4:02 pm #47910phew….. by the looks of it mine wasn’t used much or suffered much abuse It was seized/stuck when purchased but loosen up and runs very well

November 23, 2016 at 4:28 pm #47912Sounds like it’s time for one of you guys that are making reproduction rubber parts to add rubber mounts to your wares. If You can make impellers on a hub exchange basis, how about these?

It will be a bit tricky working the cutter bit around the rubber in a near perfect circle, cut not too deep on both inside surfaces of the metal so they line up for the spring ,just a slight groove, not cut too deep as to create a weak spot in the aluminum. If you can do this method, and use 5200 to fix the rubber, it is a great fix .

I think Mumbles had a post awhile back about motor mounts for these if I remember correctly?Good memory Jerry but that post was about repairing the upper mounts on the 9.9/15 horse motors. 😀
The lower mounts for the 9.5’s can be found but it’s the top one which has become non existent. When mine broke, I cleaned it off really good and coated both surfaces with Krazee Glue and clamped it in a vice overnight. That was about three or four years ago and it’s still holding but if it breaks again I’ll probably end up bolting it together.

Clamp both pieces together, then use a drill bit in a drill press to create a pilot through both sides. Then use a hole saw with the same diameter as the pilot to create the spring groove. The bolt could be installed using the same pilot diameter.
Just a thought,
