September 3, 2024 at 2:17 pm #290440Discontinued decals have those. They are the best! IMHO

September 3, 2024 at 3:48 pm #290445You didn’t indicate which horsepower 1955 Aquasonic, but the 7.5 hp decal set from discontinueddecals.com doesn’t have the words “Whispering Power”. The two 1955 Aquasonic 7.5 hp that I own have those words.
I have seen one or two nice originals that did not include “Whispering Power” on the decals, so they may have come either way.

September 4, 2024 at 9:42 pm #290485Here’s something interesting , my (1954) Evinrude 7.5 / 7516-30222 has Whispering Power decals on it which every ones website says is a 1955?
Are the “water slide lacquer” decals better than the stick on’s ?
Which type of decals do you prefer ? T Y
September 5, 2024 at 10:19 am #290497The Fleetwin 7.5hp was the Evinrude model with the “Aquasonic Wispering Power” label or decal on it.

You are right! They have both versions.
Is discontinueddecals.com and outboarddecals.com the same company? It looks that way.

Model No. 7516 is a 1954 model, but the picture you posted is of a 1955 cowl. The 1954 and 1955 cowls have different mounts and are not interchangeable unless the mounts are switched out. You may have a hybrid motor, because from the powerhead down the motors are mechanically the same. What kind of mounts are under the cowl?

Types of decals preferred, please ?
September 5, 2024 at 12:08 pm #290503Those are 1955 mounts.
Another difference between the 1954 and 1955 Fleetwin that I’ve seen is that the 1954 powerhead has a blockout for the identifying welch plug, but no plug. The 1955 powerhead has an identifying welch plug that will match the model/serial number on the transom clamp if all is original.
I zoomed in on the picture that you posted, and I see a painted over welch plug. Although tough to see, it looks like the model number may show “7518”. If it is 7518, then the powerhead is a 1955.
If the id plate on the transom clamp shows “7516” then some swapping of parts is most likely.
Regarding decals the two main types are vinyl and waterslide. Both have pros and cons. The vinyl decals are more popular and generally easier to work with but are difficult on compound curves. Once applied, they have more of a 3-dimensional look than original decals. By far the majority of vendors sell vinyl. The 3M decal material is of good quality.
Waterslide decals are a closer match to the originals because that’s what they had back in the day. Once soaked in warm water, they are very delicate and easily torn. It requires a bit more skill to apply them successfully, but they hug the compound curves a bit better. Once applied, they have a flatter appearance more closely matching the originals.
