My son-in -law’s been using this 1952 Martin 75 Twist Shift for about 7 years now. Stuck it in the barrel today to check for issues before it goes on the boat and found one. .

If it were a Ford I’d throw some radiator stop leak at it!
I’m not a fan of those Martin “gasketing” design.

See what you mean. The block only took about an hour and a half to clean up. Getting the head gasket out of the combination head and water jacket is an experience I’ll not soon forget. Soaked it in paint stripper first. Helped a little? Dug out all I could and dropped it into some Gunk carburetor parts cleaner and let it sit over night. Be heading out soon to see how well that has worked.

I’m always concerned about lapping too much on the water jacket
cover, as it will increase the “squeeze” on the head gaskets, and
have less “squeeze” on the water jacket when bolted down.
