Interesting to see how the remote controls were connected to the early ELTO/Evinrudes. I’d like to see more photos of the early controls and steering if anyone has some more.

A "Boat House Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

The Model N Sportwin had loops on the water inlet fittings that could be used for steering.

My 1930 Muncie OB2 has a large grooved pulley type of wheel on it for a steering rope to get wound on. It must have been fun to put the rope back on if it derailed. Especially if it had the factory cover on it.

Can’t forget this lovely setup seen on a PO. I guess the spark plug covers were easier to get at than the rings under the muffler.

Isn’t it to protect the tank when the motor is on the ground, like on my A-50 above ?

The rods sticking out the back of the muffler are used to lay the motor down on and the rings on the bottom are for steering hookup. The spark plug covers are to protect the plugs.

I’ve heard that back in the day when they raced opposed twins like this with the spark plugs sticking straight out, a competitor would break them off with the bow of his boat, putting you out of the competition. Moral of the story is, if you go racing, it’s best to leave the covers on!
