The double lipped seal I have is thinner than the cavity it is going in.
I know now that the numbered side goes in first into the cavity.
      The question is-
Do I make the seal flush with top (red lettering) of the housing????
      Or
Do I make the seal bottom out (yellow lettering)???

That question often arises with seals. IMO, the best thing is usually to position the seal such that the lips bear on a smooth part of the shaft–as opposed to riding in a groove cut by the former seal. Of course, this isn’t always possible.

Your generally make drive it all the way in to your yellow mark, but as stated above, ensure it rests on a good spot on the shaft first.

Then bottom it out. You wouldn’t want any water which might sneak past the seal to pool up in there.
