Also, when you push up on it, gas will run out of the bottom of the carb if the needle valve is open.

Hmmm…seemed to have lost what I typed. Yes, the poppet valve is free as a bird. I did turn the mixture all the way in, the backed out 1 1/2 turns. Thought that would be a good place to start. I’m stumped because I figured if I primed the cylinder with fuel and have spark I should at least get something. Starting to think the spark isn’t hot enough?

Another thing, if the wiring is all original, the insulation could be cracked causing an intermittent short somewhere.

These are pretty simple motors and fun to run. Mine starts very easily, usually on one pull. My spark plug is probably as old as the motor and still works.

You can see it run at the end of this PTBC Video.

Thanks David. Love the sound of the motor, looks Iike fun. Ive checked the wires and points pretty well and I think they are fine, but will go through them one more time with this in mind. Do you happen to know the plug type for these old motors? It had an H10 plug in it but not sure it’s correct.

According to the old outboard book, the plug is a Champion H10. Set at 0.025", and the points are set at 0.020". This takes a gas/oil mixture of 3/4 pint oil to a gallon of gas.

A "Boat House Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Just for fun, here is a picture of the spark plug in my Waterwitch.
