I have a 72T with a broken threaded flange on the Starboard side cylinder.

Asking for input on welding or repairing vintage cast material.

I recently made the same repair.
Mig weld around the copper tube
then drill it out when your done.
Do a little on each side till you
bring it together to avoided melting
        the tubing.

Like the way you went about this.

Also answered my thought of having to pull the jug off to weld.

          Looks good!

Did you have any problem tapping the hole?

All I needed was a hole.
I didn’t have to thread mine.
              Did you have a problem?

Not yet, I’m reading that MIG welds can be difficult to tap so I was wondering how it went for you.  I now see your repair was for the shorter bolt flange that allows for the use of a nut and bolt. Is that what you did?

I need to investigate TIG welding  from which my reading appears to be easier to tap.

I’ll also take a close look to see if there enough room to nut and bolt this flange.

Mine is just a through hole for the screw
that holds on the coil holder/cover.

Watch this video. After viewing a bunch of useless garbage
I found Tony. He offers good info on welding “To Cast Iron”.
He is not trying to be a You Tube star or running on and on
with a bunch of useless crap. 10:00 in his video applies to
to just what we are doing. His comments are what made me
                      decide to try this repair.
