I recently made the same repair.
Mig weld around the copper tube
then drill it out when your done.
Do a little on each side till you
bring it together to avoided melting
the tubing.

Also answered my thought of having to pull the jug off to weld.
Looks good!

All I needed was a hole.
I didn’t have to thread mine.
Did you have a problem?

February 20, 2024 at 11:36 pm #285209Not yet, I’m reading that MIG welds can be difficult to tap so I was wondering how it went for you. I now see your repair was for the shorter bolt flange that allows for the use of a nut and bolt. Is that what you did?
I need to investigate TIG welding from which my reading appears to be easier to tap.
I’ll also take a close look to see if there enough room to nut and bolt this flange.

Mine is just a through hole for the screw
that holds on the coil holder/cover.

Watch this video. After viewing a bunch of useless garbage
I found Tony. He offers good info on welding “To Cast Iron”.
He is not trying to be a You Tube star or running on and on
with a bunch of useless crap. 10:00 in his video applies to
to just what we are doing. His comments are what made me
decide to try this repair.
