I just bought 100′ of Copper core ignition wire. It is 7mm. The diameter looks correct. Is 7mm the correct diameter for old OMC mid-50’s ignition wire?
If anyone needs some, I have brand new stuff…Jerry

          Yup, that’s correct.

Some older motors the gauge is larger.

I find that the 7mm stuff that Sierra sells looks thinner than the OEM stuff? Both are listed as the same size, but appearance is slightly difference. Sierra is copper and OEM is tin coated copper. I have had good luck with the following. Now this happened to be a deal they had on a roll and a half at this time, but the 100′ roll or two roll deal is just as good.

Both are better than cost on Sierra or BRP. Made in the USA!

If I may add to the reply is to be sure the wire is stranded with very many strands. That makes it more flexable & will carry the current better. I know some ignitions had a very high voltage output. They require a better grade of insulation. That is called a higher dielectric value. Good luck with your new wires. 😉

I’ve used the 7mm for years on my 50’s & 60’s OMC motors and have never experienced a problem.
