Tubs, that cart photo is “priceless”, and should be in a Go Cart Museum somewhere!

      Prepare to be boarded!

Entertainment without a computer or cell phone. How in the world did we do it?? You didn’t just learn about mechanical things. It was the lessons of trial and error, patience pays dividends, making the best of what you’ve got and being HAPPY with it, deep sense of accomplishment and self-worth…You could go on and on.

        Long live American manufacturing!

Yep, as a small boy, I found an old pull-chain light socket in my neighbor’s trash.  The kind with a bare 40 Watt bulb, that still hung on a wire from the ceiling in many homes.  I tore that thing apart and discovered how it worked.  And put it back together again.  Lessee—there was an example of a ratchet device, a rotary switch, etc., etc.

Similarly, I tore apart an old mantle clock and discovered how gears work.  And when I let the wind-up spring loose, it came striking out like a nest of rattlesnakes.  A bit of patching up of my wound was required.  Needless to say, a valuable lesson in springs.

As a kid, I got an old lawnmower running. The thing took off full bore and it scared me. The only way I knew how to shut it down was to pull the plug wire. One hand on the handle and the other on the disconnected plug wire and I felt every spark. That day I was introduced to the Magneto.
