Got this parts motor in a mass purchase years ago,
and I cataloged it as “motor #38”, but evidently
never ID’d it at the time.

It’s looks like some type of Tillotson AJ carb, reminiscent
of some old Mercs with the slide-gate choke.

It’s missing the transom mount, gas tank, cowlings, etc.
No spark when I pulled it over, but the coils look nice,
and the secondaries ohm out good.
Only 47 and 55 psi compression, but I found two rings stuck
on one piston, and one on the other.

It has a cam on the base of the mag plate that
I don’t remember ever seeing before, and
as well as the throttle arm that rides on it.

Guess… Neptune of some kind??  the “push plate” choke is reminiscent of some motor , 3.6 Scott maybe ?

          Not much help !

That looks like a later Neptune such as this light green 1948 5HP Model AA4. If so, the Tillotson carb should be stamped AJ24A Neptune1948AA4model008

From my Muncie – Neptune picture files.
              Listed as a SKIPPER BB-4 1950 5 HP. ????
Did a You Tube Search and this popped up.

A "Boat House Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

                Anyone have B X S specs for the 3.5, and 5 hp Neptune’s for 1948  – 50?
I got a rough bore measurement through the exhaust port of 1.763 ish inches.
May be handy to know which parts motor I have in case someone needs
parts, or I see a Neptune of the same vintage.

Found out the low compression on the top cylinder was because the
upper piston coughed up part of a ring, but lots of good parts anyway.
