Is it to deflect heat? vibration?
part 303680 on the RD no definition on marineengine.com but heat blocker sounds OK …could be just a spacer ….F.R. would know 🙂

I’ dunno, but I always supposed heat. But if the bypass port gets that hot, you got really bad problems other than that. I do know it works just as well without it.
OMC used these in thee early days of fuel pumps as a heat shield until they realized they weren’t necessary.
