Bought this recently as I am a hit miss gas engine guy and this was cheap compared to them. now I in a quandary to what to do about missing parts ie is it worth more to fix or part out, I know it is goulish to part out things but been upside down many times on H&M engines and well you know
November 13, 2016 at 5:19 pm #47390sell to someone in the club that would love it
November 13, 2016 at 5:20 pm #47391Personally, I restore old motors or at least try to get them running again. Sometimes though, one must be sacrificed so that others may live. Especially if it has been left full of water and the internal parts are damaged beyond repair.

maybe its time for a second love and that’s outboards
and to become "AN OUTBOARD GUY"
the most important parts you already have
looking for a lower unit can be successful soon
if the piston isn’t that stuck in the cylinder, it can be a runner again
if it have to much damage in the cylinder, a wall hanger is
also a "nice to have" thing,
welcome to the club, 😎
.November 13, 2016 at 7:58 pm #47405I agree with Kees, if it turns over it is salvagable…. Need advice, talk to a few good men, like Brook Newcomb, Chris Scratch and quite a few others, have saved some serious basket cases….The knowledge AND parts are out there.

Richard

classicomctools@gmail.comNovember 14, 2016 at 2:01 am #47423Hello Brad,
As other have mentioned the lower unit should not be that difficult to come up with. I would contact Doug Penn at penn.itgo.com he may have what you need. ( complete lower unit and tiller assembly) as far as what to do with it. That is entirely up to you. Part it out ( all parts can be salvaged), Cosmetic restoration, tear down clean and just get running or a full blown restoration with the intention of having a great running dependable motor. The latter option done correctly will obviously take time and money as most parts are worn and in need of having replacement parts made or repaired. All depends on how deep you what to go. Fortunately these Evinrude Rowboat Motors are not all that rare in some cases it might be easier to start with one that is complete. You have many options.Feel free to contact me directly if you wish.

November 16, 2016 at 7:06 pm #47574Personally, since I have fallen in love with these wonderful old OB motors, I have always wanted a "REALLY OLD ONE". To me, the amazing pleasure is how well they can perform after all these years. Nobody has ever built anything else that is so simple, dependable and really well designed than some of these old OBM’s Just my opinion. If you like mechanicals (it seems you do) you could fall in love too. (do you own a boat?)
