Which 6 hp is the tougher, longer lasting motor – the U.S. motor (1965-79) or the 1980’s Belgian motor?
Much difference in performance between the two?
      Much obliged.

My vote goes to the older CD series. Much easier and cheaper to find replacement parts even though they are older. The 80’s motors seem to have issues with the CDI ignition, and were recommended to be run 100:1 by OMC which caused a lot of internal rust on motors in storage. They did revise it after a few years back to 50:1, but most owners never were aware of that and followed the 100:1 sticker on the motor.

The 1965 to 1979 6HP is the best motor ever made. In my humble opinion. The 1980 and newer are junk in comparison. But mother Evinrude knew best must have been less expensive to produce the new models. We will not talk about the 4-Stroke 6HP Evinrude.

Yeah, the 65-79 6hps are the best for sure. The later model 6hps out perform the older ones, but do have some design/reliability issues.

You can’t go wrong on a 60’s – 70’s six horse OMC motor.
