stay way kind or gem ? …what ignition type does it use ???

thanks   asking price $100 cdn    70U$  not that I need it but who knows..maybe a winter project 2024

      UPDATE:

ok….. found some UTUBES   probably 1964 …stop button rigged up,  cowl edge missing a piece but  my big worry is costly ignition parts…

looks like  basic  coils point condensers like omc magneto but not phase maker like my 4hp

      keeper or junk ?

I trust Dave…. but just for fun — what’s the serial # and is it Canadian branded ?

If it’s spent any time in the St. Lawrence you may have to replace the water pump housing.

Those are very nice running engines with the phelon magneto.  Typical Mercury weak points would be water intrusion in the gearcase and broken lower cowling mounts.  Those tiny impellers are OK with annual servicing or inspection.

For me to love an old Mercury, there has to be something about its design or styling, that makes it unique among outboards, because otherwise, they are just a pain in the butt to fix, sometimes. I know those sixes run very nicely. But the ratio of uniqueness-to-difficulty in service on them is just not there, for me, personally.

                  Long live American manufacturing!
