michiganFebruary 6, 2016 at 12:06 am #31431I think I know the guy that restored it cosmetically, and I may be the one that did the mechanicals on it.
You are lucky, she is a beauty!
February 6, 2016 at 2:59 pm #31477Thanks for all the nice comments. A very nice welcome to the site and I appreciate it. ChrisP, The gentleman I bought the motor from was named Edward Bachman from Porter, Texas. Does that ring any bells? I am new to vintage outboards so I will be needing lots of advice on how to crank it up, service the gear case, mixing ratios, etc… I don’t even think Edward every put gear oil in the lower end. it’s as clean as a newborn’s bottom. Can’t find drip of oil anywhere on the entire motor.
About to call Peter at nymarine and order a wiring harness as soon as I figure out what length I need. Is the junction block commonly installed up front near the driver or back near the motor? I don’t know what length I need and need to start figuring this stuff out.
Here’s some images of my Aristocraft Torpedo 14′ that will be getting the Javelin motor. I ordered her as an unfinished complete boat a couple of years ago from Scott and Bill Turner at Aristocraft. I am working on finishing the boat now. Got lots to do from applying epoxy to the bottom hull, paint, and varnishing.
February 6, 2016 at 3:09 pm #31478Well you came to the right place here, so many knowledgeable members here eager to help.
I think I have a video of that motor in the test tank on its first start up after restoration.
If I recall, that motor was pretty low hours, and had good compression so the powerhead was not opened up. Just got the usual tune up type stuff, ignition, carb, water pump, gearcase, etc…
The harness will be a standard length. The solenoid box it typically mounted at the stern of the boat, near the battery. Then, you will need to run wires from the box, to your key switch at the helm. I will email you some wiring diagrams, manuals, etc… to help you with all of this.
February 6, 2016 at 3:10 pm #31479I just saw your pics now after I posted…..WOW, that will be awesome!
February 6, 2016 at 4:35 pm #31481Your fuel/oil ratio will be 24:1….never less! Keep track of the gear oil for the first couple of trips to see if the gearcase is leaking water into it. Use alcohol free gasoline if possible. Gorgeous boat you have! Engine will look like the perfect match for it.
February 6, 2016 at 4:39 pm #31482Hello,
Being a curious sort, what steering system and connection to your Johnson do you have planned. My parents had a new Aristocraft in 1954-55, but with a Mark 25. The Feathercraft factory was a few blocks from where our business was. Congratulations on your nice boat and outboard!Regards,
JoeFebruary 6, 2016 at 6:22 pm #31495Scott Turner from Aristocraft included a Teleflex System with the boat when I picked it up at their shop. I got a period correct steering wheel to mount. Just bought an unrestored 1957 Tee-Nee Trailer. It’s a diamond in the rough but it just needs sandblasting and powder coating to be as good as new. Even got the teardrop fenders and baby moon hubcaps along with reproduction whitewall tires from Coker tire. Thanks again everyone for the help and advice.

February 7, 2016 at 4:15 am #31533Sandman; Congrats on the Javelin! And that Torpedo is ‘The Bomb!’ Can’t wait to see it finished.
