Coming along nicely! That’s sure a short plug wire on one side of the coil.
Guess I’ll have to see it mounted to know how that works.
Buck your memory is as bad as mine. As I was
editing these pictures it came to me that you
restored on of these not to long a ago and I sent
you a decal for it.

Makes me wonder if I ran that motor in the lake……
guess I’ll have to check my YouTube!Update, I only found a “bench start” video……. maybe
I’ll have to put that one on my “boat test bucket list”!

Here is a really old video of the first one I found.
When they first came out you had to pay extra
for the rope starter so not all of them had one.

TubsJanuary 6, 2024 at 12:45 pm #283724Tubs, that one in the video is a winner!
Would two of my 6v game cam batteries in parallel take one of my
old battery ignitions motors for a twenty minute ride on the lake?
I might be more comfortable testing those motors on the lake
if I have a six volt tractor battery.Prepare to be boarded!

One should be more than enough.
I use these small sealed batteries. I buy them as
emergency lighting but I suspect they are the
same as a trail camera battery. I don’t know
how long one will run on one of these but
I’m likely to go out 3 or 4 times a day which
would be a couples hours of running and
I never killed one. But like my gas can I always
bring a spare.
I by this brand on eBay. They cost a bit more
than some others they offer but these last years
longer.
It doesn’t take a lot to make them run.

Elto called this the “strap”. It runs from an eccentric
on the underside of the flywheel to the timer. The end
most likely was broken off because the timer was
frozen. Someone, thinking the motor was stuck, forced
the flywheel to see if they could free the motor up and
it broke.
I made this jig to attempt to repair it with the aluminum
brazing rod. I was about ready to start but I wanted to
see if I could get the end of the strap tighter to the brass
rod. One tap with the hammer was all it took.
.
Plan B
This arrangement came on the motor.
.
The home made strap seemed to be correct dimensionally
only lacking the hole that takes oil from the upper main
bearing to the timer to lubricate it.
Lacking the facilities, equipment, as well as the skills that
some have here, this is my boat house solution.
While I managed get the hole centered though the material
I’m to one side a little.
My eye-crometer has always been a bit off.

January 17, 2024 at 12:40 pm #284092Tubs, perhaps your angle oil hole is a design improvement.
The replacement strap appears to be made of steel?
As long as it doesn’t “rust up” or cause wear issues, you
should be good to go.Prepare to be boarded!
