I bought a 1948 Zephyr 4404 up at Rocky Hill this weekend. What type of water pump is in this model year?

I have a manual for a 4429-4431 can it be used with the 4404?

Should be a metal impeller that doesn’t make contact, so firing it up dry for a minute or so shouldn’t hurt it.

The pump must be under water in order to start pumping.

            . . . . . . 😉

This one has the right angle drive on the lower unit. What type of oil or grease should be used in the lower unit? Are there any other quirks I should be aware of??

I like John Deere Corn Head Grease as a substitute for Evinrude’s Outboard Special underwater grease.

                . . . . . 🙂

                  Thanks Guys.

My Uncle Bill had one after WW-2 and it was still running until the early 1960’s as I recall. I hope to have some fun with my cousin working on this project. I gave Uncle Bill an original owners manual tonight. He is 87 and in rough shape at the moment. Lord willing he will live to see it run.
